The topic of leadership is gaining popularity, continuing to monetize well. The sphere of leadership development with many books, seminars, courses, videos and trainings for managers has turned into an industry with a global turnover of a billion dollars. Leadership is positioned as a guarantee of building a successful career and developing one's own business. The idea is supported that with desire and diligence, anyone can become a leader. At the same time, it is believed that a potential leader must be sincere, modest, honest, able to inspire trust, be empathetic, have emotional intelligence and a desire to help people.

All these ideas are ephemeral virtual phone number service and form a popular picture that has nothing in common with the very essence of leadership. The bright image of a knight as a prototype of a modern leader has long since sunk into oblivion. The 21st century has formed other approaches and ideas about the qualities of a leader and his role in society.

The reality of the Russian-speaking space is that the number one leader's place has been occupied for more than two decades. This leadership tendency is present in the management and direction of large and small groups. At the top of the hierarchical ladder is the primary leader, who overshadows the supposed leaders of the 2nd and 3rd levels. And if in small close-knit groups the absence of intermediate leaders is not critical, then in the state, as a complex hierarchical system, objective conditions must be formed for the nomination of many leaders. The peculiarity of the leader's functions is determined by the specifics of the social group that he manages. In democratic and authoritarian countries, these functions will be different. In democratic structures, leaders oriented towards relationships are effective. The better the leader manages to smooth out the rough edges in relations between people or groups, the more successfully the structure as a whole operates.

Who are the leaders?
A retrospective look at the history of the post-Soviet space shows that in critical situations, when immediate changes are needed, authoritarian leaders come to power. These are people who are able to take responsibility in times of crisis and uncertainty. The need for authoritarian leaders is acutely felt in cases where a social group faces an insurmountable obstacle or a critical situation that threatens people's lives and the integrity of society.

The degree of danger faced by a social group determines not only the fact of leadership emergence, but also the format of powers that are concentrated in the hands of the leader. In critical situations, leadership is focused and retained in one set of hands.

This is used by political adventurers thirsty for power, artificially creating imaginary emergency situations, which allows them to take control of all state functions. When it is necessary to maintain power, they provoke new crises in order to maintain total control over society.

Why do we need leaders?
In the current system of state paternalism, power becomes absolute and excludes any civil independence. The power that has formed in the post-Soviet space has for decades considered adults as children who require protection and care, provoking in them aspirations for dependency. Paternalism always has an authoritarian character, which restrains the emergence of new leaders and hinders the development and consolidation of social groups. It aggravates material dependence, inertia and opposes the spiritual development of society.

At the same time, authoritarian leaders give us the opportunity to shift the burden of responsibility to those who are capable of making decisions and finding a way out of crisis situations. They allow us not to be adults and to retreat when our resources are depleted. In the event of defeat, it is the leaders who are assigned the role of bogeymen, which allows their followers to relieve themselves of the feeling of guilt for what is happening.

It is always difficult to predict whether a person will become a successful leader based solely on their personal qualities and previous activities. It is necessary to take into account the shaping environment and circumstances in which leadership qualities are manifested. Obviously, to become a leader, it is not necessary to be a person of outstanding abilities. Sometimes it is enough to be in the right place at the right time and make the most of your chance.
